“She’s gonna live with us,” Joel announces. “And nobody’s going to eat her.”
Cherise nods, barely taking her eyes off the TV. She’d been waiting all week for a time when no one was around and she wasn’t going to let Joel’s sudden change in routine destroy that for her.
The chicken bocked, bringing her back to reality. Cherise looks around at Joel’s office and wonders at the mess.

Joel shook his head.
“Fine.” Charise gritted her teeth.
“She doesn’t lay eggs anymore.”
